BordeauxMore than 5.5m hl sold for Bordeaux this year

From 1 August 2006 to 31 July 2007, sales of Bordeaux wines reached 5.67m hl - that represents a 0.4% increase in comparison with the previous period. Exports, which account for 32% of the sales (€1.28b turnover), rose by 3% in volume and 4% in value. Germany is the first market in terms of volume with 336,000hl (+5%), followed by Belgium with 314,000hl (-7%). The UK is the first country in terms of value - its volume remains stable with 254,000hl.

Alain Vironneau, President of the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux, said his objective was to increase the exports to reach 40% of total sales and he also expressed his wish to maintain the marketing budget allocation at €21.5m.
